The Greatest Discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls

Ancient Concept of the Universe

Genesis 1:14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years.” (NASB)

The (re-)discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) revealed many important things including:

But, arguably, the paramount finding was that of the calendrical texts, which are noticeably absent in the canonized Bible. Why is this so important? Because God Most High (Heb. El Elyon) performs His works on His appointed times (Heb. mo’edim); this discovery filled a knowledge gap which had been elusive for nearly two millennia! This key information will ensure that God’s elect — those written in the Book of Life (Heb. Sefer HaChaim) — will not be deceived by Belial and his sons of darkness. Even today, the world follows the pagan Gregorian calendar and the Jewry follows a Babylonian calendar. Review my article entitled It’s About Time for more information.

These are some of the key manuscripts from the DSS:

  • 4Q320 (p.402) and 4Q321 (p.406) describing a solar calendar of 364 yomim, when the priestly divisions (Heb. mishmarot) served, and the 354 yomim lunar cycles. If you skipped my article It’s About Time, now would be a good time to review it. It explains the difference between a Biblical yom and a modern SI day, which makes a 364 yomim calendar possible and still applicable.
  • 4Q325 (p.415) and 4Q327 describing three appointed times not fully documented in the canonized Bible: Feast of New Wine, Feast of New Oil, and Feast of the Wood Offering.
  • 4Q319 (p.420) describing the jubilees with the priestly division serving on 1 Abib, the Biblical New Year’s Day. It is important to understand the jubilees, or weeks of years, as Daniel’s 70 “weeks” is actually referring to a period of 3,430 years (i.e., 70 x 49 = 3,430).
  • 1 Enoch 72 describes the course of the sun.
  • 1 Enoch 7374,7879 describes the course of the moon.

These are summarized in the following documents:

In addition, I have reconciled the Gregorian calendar with that of the DSS for a full lunar cycle of three years — one of which is a leap year:

The fact that this reconciliation is possible proves that this calendar is still valid and is in play from an eschatological perspective.

After three years, the lunar cycle is 30 yomim deficient and realigns with the 364 yomim solar calendar. This evokes a Heavenly sign (Heb. ‘ot); that is, a full moon on 1 Abib; refer to the DSS Jubilees document above for details. We will actually witness that sign the evening of March 21, 2019. Also, on the evening of April 7th (18 Abib), Cycle 1 of 6 of the priestly divisions will commence. The priestly divisions are significant because it provides a vital clue as to when John the (Water) Immerser was conceived, which is critical in deciphering both Christ’s conception as well as His birth!

It is a miracle that these calendrical documents were made publicly available. The two entities — that controlled and had the most to lose regarding the truth contained within them — allowed them to be published. They must have thought they were irrelevant in modern times; they could not have been more wrong! In that regard, I highly recommend The Dead Sea Scrolls Deception by Baigent and Leigh. The authors were eerily spot on in the handling, translating, and publishing the DSS manuscripts. Of course, this book was panned by “Biblical scholars” and “theologians.”

HaDerech: It’s About Time

Khirbet QumranKhirbet (=ruins of) Qumran

The Most High performs His bidding at very specific times; in fact, the Hebrew word for these are mo’edim meaning “appointed times.”

As was previously discussed, the modern Jewry follows the Masoretic calendar based on the pagan Babylonian model since the time of the Kingdom of Judah’s captivity. In fact, the fourth (or tenth!) month — depending on whether the religious or civil calendar is employed — is named for the Babylonian deity Tammuz. The “rabbinic sages” state the Creation Week took place in the seventh (or first!) month of Tishri. However, Torah clearly states that the first month is Abib! See Exodus 13:3-4, 23:15, 34:18 and Deuteronomy 16:1. They place more faith in the Talmud Bavli (=Babylonian Talmud) than they do the TaNaKh (OT). They have continually rejected the Most High, yet a remnant of believers have always remained (Romans 11).

Why should one care about calendars anyway? That is explained thoroughly in my Mo’edim series. What does the Bible state about the God’s calendar? As we saw above, the first month is Abib. The appointed times are spelled out in Leviticus 23 with the jubilees explained in Leviticus 25:1-22. The priestly courses or divisions (Heb. mishmarot) are listed in 1 Chronicles 24:7-19.

Before exploring that further, let’s examine the pagan Gregorian calendar adopted by nearly the entire world starting in October 1582. It was a refinement to the Julian calendar proposed by Julius Caesar in 46 BCE, which was a reform of the calendar of the Roman Republic.

Let’s review the original, first four months of that Roman Republic calendar (the remainder were essentially enumerated):

As the calendar evolved, three more months were added and became the “new” beginning of the year (i.e., moved from March to January):

  • Ianuarius – named after Janus, the two-faced god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, and ending
  • Februarius – named after Februa, Lat. for “purifications” or “purgings”
  • Mercedonius (an intercalary month) – meaning the “month of wages;” this month was removed during the Julian reform

The Roman Senate renamed the month of Quintilis, formerly the fifth month, to July in honor of then general Julius Caesar. Likewise, Sextilis, formerly the sixth month, was renamed August in honor of Augustus in 8 BCE. Again, the Most High named the first month Abib and simply enumerated the rest.

Examine the etymology of our modern weekdays:

That represents a broad range of polytheistic assimilation still preserved in our modern calendar, but that’s not all! Hours originated with the Egyptians, minutes and seconds from the Babylonian’s sexagesimal (base-60) system, and the Romans began their “day” at midnight. None of this is in accordance with the timekeeping of the Most High; in fact, it represents an ABOMINATION!

Enter Dionysius Exiguus (aka Dennis the Small), a 6th century CE, Scythian monk who ineptly manufactured the anno Domini (AD) system of year accounting. As we know from the Book of Luke, Christ was NOT born in 1 AD but on the Feast of Weeks in 6 CE during the census of Quirinius; see Luke 2:2. This monk also computed his infamous Easter Tables, which ensured that the “early church’s” celebration of Easter — covertly paying homage to a spring fertility goddess of the dawn and NOT Christ’s resurrection on 18 Abib in 36 CE — would NEVER coincide with Passover, when He was crucified on 14 Abib! These same Easter Tables were used to extrapolate the alleged birthdate of Christ, which “happened” to correlate with the birth of the assimilated god Mithra(s) on December 25th. Here’s the mystery: The ONLY thing in Christmas is Mithra(s)! Folks, just like rabbinic Judaism, the only basis of the Catholic “esoteric mysteries” is assimilated paganism. Many of these pagan traditions were carried over into Protestantism after the Reformation. Recall that Martin Luther (a corruption of Ludher) was a Catholic friar protesting indulgences among other things in his Ninety-five Theses.

If the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth of the mo’edim is not found in rabbinic Judaism, Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Protestantism, nor any of the other “flavors” of modern Christendom, then where may it be found? The answer was rediscovered with the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) and the “sect” called The Way (Heb. HaDerech) in Acts. From a calendrical perspective, the four most important artifacts to survive were the:

Note: 1 Enoch and Jubilees were the third and sixth most frequent manuscripts discovered among the DSS, respectively. Both of these manuscripts were also discovered in Abyssinia (modern Ethiopia) and translated prior to the DSS.

How can a 364-yom solar calendar be of the Most High? It’s really easy when you stop to think about it. All of our modern timekeeping methods are based upon ancient pagan constructs discussed above. God’s “day” does not start at midnight; a yom is composed of an evening and morning (Genesis 1:5) with its commencement when the sun’s orb sits just atop the western horizon at twilight (Exodus 12:6). This is reinforced by Alex Filippenko in his third lecture entitled “Sunrise, Sunset” of the DVD series “Understanding the Universe: Introduction to Astronomy.” After that point when the sun “kisses” the horizon at sunset, we are simply viewing atmospheric refraction. God’s “day” is not comprised of 24 hours; a yom is divided into 18 portions. God’s months are not composed of a combination of 28/29, 30, or 31 days but contain 30 yomim (plural of yom) with seasonal markers (intercalary days) for the equinoxes and solstices, but not by modern definitions. According to 1 Enoch, the equinoxes occur on the first of two yomim on which the sun sets due west (270 degrees) and rises due east (90 degrees) presumably in Jerusalem.

For a year to be comprised of 364 yomim — instead of 365.25636 SI days in a sidereal year, that means that a yom must be slightly longer than a SI day. Why a sidereal year? Because God uses the sun, moon, and stars for signs, seasons, days, and years (Genesis 1:14). If the 364-yom year is used as the basis, then the conversion factor is 1.00345153846 SI days per yom (i.e., 365.25636 / 364). Applying that conversion factor to a 24-hour SI day, we discover that a yom is exactly 4 minutes 58.2129230769 seconds longer!  How can we know when the TRUE vernal equinox occurs?  Again, the answer is found in the Qumran calendar.  Every three years, a full moon is observed on 1 Abib, or God’s New Year’s Day (cf. Lunar Cycle 1 of 3); the day immediately following the vernal equinox.  This event is called a “sign” (Heb. ‘ot; pl. ‘otot); see the Jubilee accounting of years.  From the “evening” of March 21, 2018, through the “morning” of March 21, 2019, we are in Lunar Cycle 3 of 3.  A full moon does, in fact, occur on 1 Abib of the following year (Lunar Cycle 1 of 3), which is observed between the “evening” of March 21, 2019, and the “morning” of March 22, 2019.  Although this “sign” will officially occur on March 21st at 3:42am local Jerusalem time in accordance with SI timekeeping (see here), it will not be observed until that “evening” (i.e., full moons rise in the east as the sun sets in the west).  For more information on equinoxes, see here.

A consequence of a yom being slightly longer than a SI day, is that “day slippage” will occur at some point of the year between God’s calendar and the Gregorian. Think crossing the arbitrary International Date Line.  God’s mo’edim occur on the same day every year just as He conveyed (e.g., Exodus 12:14).

I’ll wrap up this article with two passages: Daniel 7:25 and Ecclesiastes 3:1-9. Israel will “officially” adopt the fastis catholicus (=universal calendar) in the future thereby starting the proverbial clock regarding Daniel 7:25.

HaDerech: Evidence of THE WAY in Acts

Khirbet QumranKhirbet (=ruins of) Qumran

Yesterday, the topic of who penned the Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) was explored. Today, a deeper dive will be taken into where the “sect” called The Way (Heb. HaDerech/Gr. tēn Hodon) is mentioned explicitly in Acts. For starters, the following describes the way of life of the Congregation of men and women:

  • Acts 9:1-31
  • Acts 19:8-10, 23-27
  • Acts 22:1-16
  • Acts 24:1-16

A summary of these passages may be found here.

The following bears repeating from the words of Paul the Apostle:

Acts 24:14 But this I admit to you, that according to [T]he Way which they call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets; 15 having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. (NASB)

Recall that (Titus Flavius) Josephus (né Yosef ben Matityahu) — a Jewish historian, Roman citizen, and self-described Pharisee (cf. Section 2) — applied the term “Essenes” (=pious ones) to this “sect.” He even had a spurious claim of living among those in Qumran before deciding to practice pharisaism; however, his timeline does not mesh up (i.e., he lied on his résumé). The Dead Sea Scrolls mention “the way” repeatedly in significant, sectarian manuscripts.

The Damascus Document describes how the Congregation of men and women lived. They sold all their earthly possessions and donated the proceeds to the collective — living a communal lifestyle. This is confirmed in Acts including some of the problems they encountered:

  • Acts 2:44-47
  • Acts 4:32-37
  • Acts 5:1-11
  • Acts 6:1-6

A summary of these passages may be found here.

John (Heb. Yochanan) was instructed in the desert wilderness of Qumran based on Luke 1:80:

Luke 1:80 And the child continued to grow and to become strong in spirit, and he lived in the deserts until the day of his public appearance to Israel. (NASB)

Do you think that John’s parents — whose father was a Levitical priest — would allow their only son to roam aimlessly in the desert? How would he become “strong in spirit?” The Holy Spirit had not been sent yet!

Like it or not, THIS was the early church… And, for the Catholic folks, Peterthe apostle to the JEWSNEVER visited Rome, but as a Roman citizen, Paul — the apostle to the GENTILES — definitely did! It is difficult at best to claim that Peter was the “first pope” (Matthew 23:9) of a church that he never visited. Those facts are documented in Acts et al. Again, has anyone heard of The Way mentioned in their church or synagogue?

Enoch and Elijah, the two witnesses of Revelation, will set this straight when they prophesy in Jerusalem for forty-two (42) months, or twelve hundred and sixty (1,260) days. The world at large will reject their testimony and will rejoice at their deaths — even to the point of exchanging gifts! See Revelation 11:1-13.

HaDerech: Who Penned the Dead Sea Scrolls?

Khirbet (=ruins of) Qumran

Since the discovery of the first Dead Sea Scroll (DSS) manuscripts in the caves of Qumran in 1946, Biblical “scholars” and “theologians” have opined about who actually penned them and why. For the most part, their theories are inconclusive at best. Is it because they know the truth and have been providing mis-/disinformation about it?

The mystery is easily solved in the Book of Acts. Luke and Acts were written to Mattathias ben Theophilus (recorded simply as “Theophilus” — just as Yosef ben Caiaphas was referenced as “Caiaphas” in the New Testament). Theophilus was the kohen gadol (=chief priest) of the Second Temple in 65-66 CE before the outset of the First Jewish-Roman War spanning 66-74 CE. Luke was explicitly written in chronological order taken from eyewitness accounts; see Luke 1:1-4 concentrating on v3. The purpose was to give Israel one last chance to acknowledge her Messiah (Heb. Mashiach) or suffer the consequences of denying the Son of God.

The “sect” was called THE WAY (Heb. HaDerech/Gr. tēn Hodon) in Acts and throughout various DSS manuscripts. Josephus, a self-described Pharisee (cf. Section 2) — and we know what Christ thought of them in The Eight Woes recorded in Matthew 23, coined the derogatory term “Essenes” (=pious ones) that is applied incorrectly to this day. Somehow, NO “scholar” nor “theologian” has made the very obvious connection between The Way in Acts and the DSS to the Essenes of Josephus; that is because they know that this was the ONE, TRUE CHURCH — “to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16, 2:9-11). To admit this would send reverberations to the core of modern “Christianity” and “Judaism” and would challenge the alleged “apostolic authority” that some churches falsely claim. When was the last time you heard the “sect” called The Way mentioned in your church or synagogue?

Regardless, this is what he recorded about them in Antiquities of the Jews, Book 18, Chapter 1, Section 5:

Ant. 18.1.5 “The doctrine of the Essens is this: That all things are best ascribed to God. They teach the immortality of souls, and esteem that the rewards of righteousness are to be earnestly striven for; and when they send what they have dedicated to God into the temple, they do not offer sacrifices because they have more pure lustrations of their own; on which account they are excluded from the common court of the temple, but offer their sacrifices themselves; yet is their course of life better than that of other men; and they entirely addict themselves to husbandry. It also deserves our admiration, how much they exceed all other men that addict themselves to virtue, and this in righteousness; and indeed to such a degree, that as it hath never appeared among any other men, neither Greeks nor barbarians, no, not for a little time, so hath it endured a long while among them. This is demonstrated by that institution of theirs, which will not suffer any thing to hinder them from having all things in common; so that a rich man enjoys no more of his own wealth than he who hath nothing at all. There are about four thousand men that live in this way, and neither marry wives, nor are desirous to keep servants; as thinking the latter tempts men to be unjust, and the former gives the handle to domestic quarrels; but as they live by themselves, they minister one to another. They also appoint certain stewards to receive the incomes of their revenues, and of the fruits of the ground; such as are good men and priests, who are to get their corn and their food ready for them. They none of them differ from others of the Essens in their way of living, but do the most resemble those Dacae who are called Polistae [dwellers in cities].”

These “Essenes” — who were chaste priests, Levites, Israelites, and proselytes lived a communal lifestyle with all things in common — were considered to be “wise men” as they were known for their gift of prophecy. The following is found in Ant. 13.11.2:

Ant. 13.11.2 “But here one may take occasion to wonder at one Judas, who was of the sect of the Essens, and who never missed the truth in his predictions; for this man, when he saw Antigonus passing by the temple, cried out to his companions and friends, who abode with him as his scholars, in order to learn the art of foretelling things to come? That it was good for him to die now, since he had spoken falsely about Antigonus, who is still alive, and I see him passing by, although he had foretold he should die at the place called Strato’s Tower that very day, while yet the place is six hundred furlongs off, where he had foretold he should be slain; and still this day is a great part of it already past, so that he was in danger of proving a false prophet. As he was saying this, and that in a melancholy mood, the news came that Antigonus was slain in a place under ground, which itself was called also Strato’s Tower, or of the same name with that Cesarea which is seated at the sea. This event put the prophet into a great disorder.”

These “wise men (Gr. magos from Matthew 2:1) from the east” of Jerusalem — 15 miles as the crow flies — in the desert wilderness of Qumran had resided there for nearly two centuries before Christ’s conception on the Feast of New Oil (Heb. Chag Yitzhar) in 5 CE and His birth on the Feast of Weeks (Heb. Chag Shavu’ot) in 6 CE during the census of Quirinius; see Luke 2:2. (And, yes, I have confirmed what the “star of Bet Lechem” was with our local planetarium.) What is not widely publicized about the DSS is that these “wise men” were also greatly attuned to the signs in the Heavens (Genesis 1:14-19 concentrating on v14) including the course of the Heavenly luminaries (i.e., the sun and moon), lunar cycles, zodiology (=annual traversal through the zodiac), and even brontology (=signs from thunder).

Yochanan (John), who was a Levite, went to study at Qumran; see Luke 1:80. Recall that he was “the voice crying out in the (desert) wilderness” and had his own disciples (Matthew 9:14 et al.). The Feast of Weeks is when The Way renewed Biblical covenants. Yehoshu’a (=Joshua, falsely called “Jesus” from the Latin transliteration — NOT translation — of His name) ushered in the ultimate New Covenant with His birth. The manuscript that documented their way of life is in the Community Rule (Heb. Serekh* HaYahad) designated as 1QS.

Author’s Note:  Serekh (samech-resh-kaph) does not mean “rule” as so many DSS scholars have proclaimed and mindlessly regurgitated.  According to Reuben Alcalay’sThe Complete Hebrew/English Dictionary (Nun-Tav)” on p.1823 under the second entry, serekh means “custom, manner, or conduct.”  Therefore, the better translation is “Community Conduct” or “Conduct of the Community” instead of “Community Rule.”  What is interesting is that the first entry is defined as “dragging” in reference to adherence.  We know from Biblical history that the Israelites were notorious for disobeying the Law of Moses.  Picture this:  The Conduct of the Community would ensure adherence — to drag one back into compliance with the Law — or the transgressor would be punished or banished if the infraction were severe enough.

Malachi was likely the Teacher of Righteousness, and John Hyrcanus — the first Jewish ruler to “proselytize by the sword,” loot David’s tomb (at least twice!), and embrace Hellenistic Judaism among other detestable things for political influence — was the Wicked Priest recorded in the DSS when this “sect” was in its infancy. Malachi explicitly speaks of The Way and of the coming of Yochanan before Yehoshu’a:

Malachi 2:8 But as for you, you have turned aside from THE WAY [emphasis mine]; you have caused many to stumble by the instruction; you have corrupted the covenant of Levi,” says the Lord of hosts. (NASB)

Malachi 3:1 “Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear THE WAY [emphasis mine] before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming,” says the Lord of hosts. (NASB)

The original prophesy in Isaiah:

Isaiah 40:3 A voice is calling,
“Clear THE WAY [emphasis mine] for the Lord in the wilderness;
Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. (NASB)

Here is the confirmation to this prophesy from the three Synoptic Gospels and John focusing on Matthew 3:3, Mark 1:3, Luke 3:4, and John 1:23.  No one knows with absolutely certainty when the Book of Malachi was originally penned; therefore, it could have been during the second century BCE when The Way was formed.  In fact, Malachi may not be a proper name but a title meaning “My Messenger” in reference to the Angel of the Lord.  Multiple sectarian manuscripts of the DSS clearly state that literal angels were in the presence of those worshipping within the Community.

The Congregation, or men and women of The Way, lived in Damascus, Syria, where there is a “street called Straight” to this very day; see Acts 9:11. Their way of life was recorded in the Damascus Document. They would dedicate their first-born sons to Yahoah and send them to Qumran to study. Where was Sha’ul (Saul) going to persecute the men and women of The Way under direct orders (i.e., letters) from the Great Sanhedrin? See Acts 9:1-22, 22:1-16. It’s all right there in black and white, folks! You just have to open your eyes and quit listening to Biblical “scholars” and their false machinations.

Of those in Qumran, the last vestiges of them were discovered at Masada according to research via the Biblical Archaeology Society (BAS). Scribal remnants were crossed matched at both locations.

So, how does The Way factor into prophesy? They are the 144,000 of Revelation! What other Jewish males in that number (12,000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel) were chaste? Neither the Pharisees nor Sadducees were celibate; Josephus recorded it in Ant. 18.1.5. Certain DSS documents clearly state that those in Qumran were. This “sect” separated themselves from the political and religious corruption being practiced in Jerusalem, and they lasted for just under three centuries (early second century BCE to 74 CE). The generation that existed in the time of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection in 36 CE certainly witnessed the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. They met their ultimate demise in 74 CE at Masada. But, believers in Christ will encounter them again as the 144,000…
